The number of worldwide smartphone shipments reached 302 million units in 2010, which rose to 71 percent from the year 2009. According to ABI Research, the success of Google's Android which started since its launch is expected to continue. A total of 69 million smartphones shipped last year to use the Android operating system. ABI estimates that Android will control 45 percent of the smartphone market in 2016.
Michale Morgan, a senior analyst states, Android, Bada, and the BlackBerry has a great opportunity to fill the void left by the Symbian OS in two years.
Apple IOS reach 15 percent market share in 2010 with a moderate and stable growth over the medium term, supported by new product announcements. ABI Research estimates the market share for the IOS in 2016 reached 19 percent.
