Research In Motion set up a small facility in India to help the government authority to monitor some of the encrypted data is sent through RIM servers. Wall Street Journal in its report stated, this facility makes the continuing conflict between India and RIM government eased a little, but officials still want access to BlackBerry email and instant messaging.
Last year, the Indian government threatening to shut down all services are in the country, if RIM does not offer a solution to allow the government to intercept messages BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) and email. RIM's new facility in Mumbai legalize wiretapping BBM messages and some consumer email. When the government of India has suspicions about someone, they can submit the name of the suspect to the RIM, which will enter the person's mobile data then pass the information to authorities.
Journal stated, this is just to relieve the demands of the Indian government, which wants to make a description of the message itself without having to reveal the name of the suspect to RIM. Although that case, tapping arrangement shall not apply to BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), which provides services to business customers and is operated by tingga level encryption. RIM even say they do not have the encryption keys for email on the BES that is one reason the service is very popular among business users.
While the government of India is not too worried about corporate email, remember most of the growth of RIM in India occur among consumers rather than business customers.
